Parallel object allocation via user-specified directives: A case study in traffic simulation

چکیده
Parallel applications can exhibit different behaviours in their dynamic need of resources. Then, predefined and automatic approaches to allocation cannot always achieve satisfactory results. The paper presents the approach adopted in the PO (Parallel Objects) environment to let users drive object allocation in parallel/distributed architectures. A set of a high-level directives permits users to specify the allocation needs of application objects; a dynamic load balancing tool – part of the environment run-time support – uses the user-level allocation directives to tune its behaviour. The paper presents the PO implementation of an application example in the field of traffic simulation. The goal is to shows the ease of use and the flexibility of the allocation directives, together with the effectiveness of the approach in improving the performances of dynamic object-oriented parallel applications. High-Level Directives to Drive the Allocation of Parallel Object-Oriented Applications
The paper presents the Abstract Configuration Language (ACL) implemented within the Parallel Objects object-oriented parallel programming environment. ACL defines a set of directives that allow users to specify the allocation needs of his/her application components without being aware of the architectural details. ACL directives drive the allocation decisions of the run-time support, by adaptin...
متن کاملCross-layer Packet-dependant OFDM Scheduling Based on Proportional Fairness
This paper assumes each user has more than one queue, derives a new packet-dependant proportional fairness power allocation pattern based on the sum of weight capacity and the packet’s priority in users’ queues, and proposes 4 new cross-layer packet-dependant OFDM scheduling schemes based on proportional fairness for heterogeneous classes of traffic. Scenario 1, scenario 2 and scenario 3 lead r...
متن کاملCongestion Management through Optimal Allocation of FACTS Devices Using DigSILENT-Based DPSO Algorithm- A Real Case Study
Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices have shown satisfactory performance in alleviating the problems of electrical transmission systems. Optimal FACTS allocation problem, which includes finding optimal type and location of these devices, have been widely studied by researchers for improving variety of power system technical parameters. In this paper, a DIgSILENT-based Discrete Parti...
متن کاملRuntime Support and Compilation Methods for User-Specified Irregular Data Distributions
This paper describes two new ideas by which a High Performance Fortran compiler can deal with irregular computations effectively. The first mechanism invokes a user specified mapping procedure via a set of proposed compiler directives. The directives allow use of program arrays to describe graph connectivity, spatial location of array elements, and computational load. The second mechanism is a ...
متن کاملSynthetic Traffic Generation Techniques For ATM Network Simulations
This paper presents a synthetic traffic modeling approach to generate bursty, long-range dependent (LRD) traffic flows for ATM network simulations. The approach uses Fractional-ARIMA processes and a set of mathematical transformations to generate traffic streams with a wide range of user-specified traffic characteristics. With this modeling approach, the user can control the short-range and lon...
